DESCRIPTION OF THE ASCENT TO KORYAKSKY VOLCANO VIA THE NORTHEAST RIDGE, CATEGORY 3B Category 3A (voice)
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PEAK AND ITS LOCATION See the description of the ascent to Koryaksky volcano via the South Ridge, category 3B.
- TRANSITION TO THE STARTING POINT OF THE ASCENT See the description of the ascent to Koryaksky volcano via the South Ridge. The dry riverbed is blocked in its upper reaches by an elevation overgrown with dense alder bushes. Only near the left bank, the river flowing from the Avachinsky glacier has carved a deep, narrow, solid bed. The river is turbulent and very muddy. The road continues along the right bank of the dry riverbed through thickets of alder bushes to the volcanological station. Practically, this road can be traversed at the end of July to October. The gullies filled with snow pose a serious obstacle for ordinary vehicles during May-July. If the vehicle cannot pass, further movement is on foot. The best passage is closer to the left bank of the dry riverbed through sparse alder bushes. The walking time to the volcanological station is 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Passage of the 3rd route. △ — overnight stay locations. R — control tour. The beginning of the approach description to the stream is given in the description of the north-western route. Along the stream descending from the plateau, which approaches the north-western ridge, descent into the valley, separating the north-western ridge and the western one. The descent runs along grassy slopes and is technically simple. Having descended into the valley, it can be seen that to the right of the descent direction the western ridge is bristling with rocky pillars, and to the left glaciers descend into the valley. Having descended into the valley, we turn left along the track to a prominent cliff from the western ridge; this cliff must be bypassed from the western side along grassy slopes, which lead to a grassy glade. The glade encircles this cliff in a semicircle and is easily bypassed from the south-western side. This place is the starting point of the ascent in the western direction. The time required for the approach from the stream with descent and ascent is 1.5–2 hours. Height above sea level is 1600 m.

On the ascent of p. Shchurovsky (4259 m) via the north-eastern wall, category 5B route by V. Abalakov of the SA and Navy team Team leader Zhak V.V., team coach Dzhibradev Yu.G. When developing the tactical action plan for the route, the team considered the following factors:
- the volume of information about the route available to the team before the ascent;
- the weather conditions in the ascent area;
- the duration of the approach to the route;
- the level of preparedness of the team members. To expand knowledge about the route, the team decided to observe it for a day preceding the ascent. On July 21, team members continuously observed the route (see observation and radio communication log). The observation results allowed for some adjustments to the stated tactical plan, according to which the team planned to complete the route in 10-11 hours.
