Route of ascent to the summit ALYR-SU-BASHI via the northwest ridge (4370 m) Route category 3B The summit ALYR-SU-BASHI is located in the northern Alyr spur of the Main Caucasian Range, between the Goudunov and Granovsky passes. Three ridges radiate from the summit:

  • to the North
  • to the Northwest
  • to the South A counterforce extends eastward to the Bashdy glacier.

Ascent Route Description to the summit of Lagau, 4064 m

From the West

Approximately 2B cat. diff. From the lower Zaramag camps, the path lies in the direction of the glacier descending from Mt. Zaramaga. Cross two streams and then follow the trail towards the left (in the direction of travel) green moraine. In the middle, traverse the talus to the right green moraine. Up along it, under the reddish rocks. Leaving the rocks on the left, ascend to the upper camps. The journey from the lower to the upper camps takes about 2 hours. From the upper camps, head up and to the right, towards the black moraine talus, approximately 15 minutes. The order of movement from the upper camps:

  • Turn right and ascend this talus for about 5 minutes.
  • Then head towards the depression in the next black talus descending from the slopes of Mt. Adai (on the left in the direction of travel).
  • Enter a wide snow-ice cirque. From the upper camps — 30–40 minutes.

On the ascent of p. Shchurovsky (4259 m) via the north-eastern wall, category 5B route by V. Abalakov of the SA and Navy team Team leader Zhak V.V., team coach Dzhibradev Yu.G. When developing the tactical action plan for the route, the team considered the following factors:

  • the volume of information about the route available to the team before the ascent;
  • the weather conditions in the ascent area;
  • the duration of the approach to the route;
  • the level of preparedness of the team members. To expand knowledge about the route, the team decided to observe it for a day preceding the ascent. On July 21, team members continuously observed the route (see observation and radio communication log). The observation results allowed for some adjustments to the stated tactical plan, according to which the team planned to complete the route in 10-11 hours.
