Description of the Descent from Orlyonok NW Peak

  1. From the Orlyonok NW peak, continue traversing along the ridge, approx. 2+ cat. difficulty. Movement alternates along the ridge, with existing signs of previous rappel stations.
  2. It is rational to continue moving to the last tooth, where a station for rappel should be organized, with a total distance from the peak of approximately 60 m.
  3. Previous rappel loop options result in a significantly oblique rappel, which is associated with the risk of the rope dislodging stones onto a participant during re-rigging.
  4. The rappel from the peak to the cirque base is approximately 80 m. The rappel from the ridge to the re-rigging station is approximately 30 m. Then another 50 m. The belay is convenient, the approach path is visible, and orientation is straightforward.
  5. It is recommended that the group carries a shovel to trim small snow cornices (corners) on the descent if possible.
  6. Expendable rope for three stations is mandatory.
