About

Ala-Archa is one of the most accessible and at the same time technically rich mountain areas of Tian Shan, located in the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range just 40 km south of Bishkek. The area is part of the Ala-Archa National Park and is widely used for mountaineering, sports and mountain tourism, as well as for training camps and climbing ascents.

The heights of the peaks in the area range from 3500 to almost 5000 m. The most famous peaks are: https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/14647903/about ↗, https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739502/about ↗, https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739493/about ↗, https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739411/about ↗, https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739538/about ↗, https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739520/about ↗https://summitx.info/ru/objects/peaks/12739532/about ↗ and a number of less known but technically interesting peaks. The area is rich in glaciers — Ak-Sai, Adygene, Teke-Tor and others, as well as a large number of rock, snow-ice and combined routes with difficulty from 1B to 6A.

Ala-Archa is widely known as one of the best ice climbing areas in Central Asia. In the Ak-Sai valley and on adjacent glaciers there are numerous ice couloirs up to 800–1000 meters long.

The main mountaineering valleys are Ak-Sai, Adygene and Teke-Tor. Ak-Sai has the largest number of classic routes. The rock relief is represented by solid granite, which makes the area popular for technical mountaineering.

The main season for summer mountaineering is from May to September, with optimal conditions most often in June–August. The winter season is focused primarily on ice routes. The weather is unstable: sharp cold snaps, strong winds and snowfalls are possible at any time of the year.

Approaches to most routes are relatively short, the entrance to the national park is paid. Despite its proximity to the city and popularity, the area retains a pronounced mountaineering character and requires an appropriate level of training and responsibility.
