Snezhnaya
Snezhnaya via the Northwestern Wall
From the base camp located in the Aktru rescue area, move along the Aktru River and then along the moraine and Pravy Aktru glacier towards the ridge. To approach the NW wall of Snezhnaya peak, it is necessary to overcome two steps of the icefall:
- The first one is bypassed via a talus-filled gully in the upper third of the ridge;
- The second one — under the rocky slopes of Snezhnaya peak.
Approach time — 4–5 hours.
The northwestern wall of Snezhnaya peak is snow-ice. The slope varies from 30 to 50° in the middle, steepest part.
Climbing:
- Alternating lead
- Protection via ice screws
- The group needs to set up rope protection
Route features:
- In the lower and upper parts, it is necessary to cross bergschrunds
Time to climb the wall 6–7 hours.
