Multi-day route, usually around 2–5 days. Planned bivouacs, high self-reliance, difficult retreat; a fast exit and outside help are not guaranteed.

Serious objective danger over a noticeable part of the route or descent. The window of good conditions is fairly narrow, and the cost of a mistake is noticeably higher.
